Default Printer Switching When You Convert To PDF From Within Office

I am not aware of a solution for the problem, but here is my findings on the problem:

We have experienced Adobe switching the default printer with Office, but have noticed something related to the naming convention of the printer (we have over 90 printers in our environment). We have printers named:
18_South
18_SouthCentral
18_SouthEast
18_SouthWest
18_East

If the default is 18_SouthCentral, 18_SouthEast or 18_SouthWest it will change it 18_South after converting a document to .pdf. If the default printer is 18_South or 18_East then it always goes back to the correct default printer. It seems in our environment that if the printer name is contained within another printer's name (18_South is contained in 18_SouthEast) then the problem occurs. It seems to be irrelevant of the make, model or driver and seems totally related to the naming convention. It is almost like it is looking for a 8.3 naming convenion of some sort. You can watch the The Acrobat PDFMaker doing a temporary change of the current printer to Adobe PDF in order to produce PostScript for distillation (you see the default printer checkmark go to the Acrobat Printer). It is supposed to set the default printer back to whatever the previous value was when it was done, but in our case you can see the checkmark for the default printer goes back to 18_South in this example. So, it appears to have something to do with the default printer. This is not limited to just these group of printers as we have many more floors with the same scenario of one printer's name being contained within another's. It would be interesting to see if someone else is having the same problem or can reproduce this in a MS Office environment.
