Fine tuning Grayscale in Preflight/PDF Fixups/Convert to Grayscale

Is it possible to fine tune the PDF Fixup, (Convert to Gray scale) to ensure that the original Gray tones in the PDF do not gain in their percentage. i.e.: 25% Black will become 30% Black.

I need to maintain the original percentage of black in my work flow.

Hi WarrenR,

Yes - it is possible to create a duplicate of this fixup and then edit the conversion settings.

You will need to focus on the 'Conversion Settings' part of the fixup and then isolate different colour space to either convert to destination or not to convert

For example

You can select
Greyscale images
(and select) do not convert

You can then select
Color images
(and select) Convert to Destination

You can then isolate all other content which you wish to either convert or not

Please bear in mind, the 'Destination' tab must also be configured according to your preferences/printing conditions.

Hope this does help?

All the very best,

Jon

I've been using Acrobat since v1.0 and still get amazed by its power. An Acrobat ACE since 1999

You might want to move up to Callas pdfToolbox where you can use custom black profiles, like 0 dotgain black profiles. Using Acrobat Pro you say "decalibrate" for tagged gray. But I can't get Acrobat 9 Pro to use a custom black profile like I can in pdfToolbox. If you have a full copy or a demo fo pdfToolbox I can send you a configuration file for that.

You can try this: www.mattbeals.com/misc/convert_to_gray_acrobat_pro_9.zip

Matt,

I am assuming that the zipped file sent with the suggestion was to be used with pdfToolbox. I have found that the suggestion given by Jon, has fulfilled my request and I am reluctant to invest in more software at this time thank you for your suggestion, I hope to look into this other software in the future.

Upon opening you zipped file I see that the extension is a .cca. I am not familiar with this extension or where it should be imported.
Please advise.

It's a settings file for Acrobat Pro's color conversion dialog box. Open up the convert colors dialog box and "load settings".
