I'm seeing AND printing white lines that don't exist

Hi there,

I thought I was having one of the previously mentioned "smooth line art" or "smooth image" issues, but it seems to be more than that.

I have a PDF created from InDesign, with a transparent gradient over a spot color. In most of the document it displays and prints correctly, but in one location it is printing a thin white line on the edge of the transparency. I've been able to disappear it on screen by turning off the "smooth" options, but it's still printing on my local printer.

I've sent a version of this file to press and the result was fine, but for peace of mind and for showing proofs I'd like the lines to go away.

Any ideas?

The appearance of the lines is caused by the output device not doing Overprinting (which the platesetter or imagesetter, for press, do automatically). In the Print dialog, click Advanced and in Output (on the left) check Simulate Overprinting (on the right). This should fix those pesky lines :)

Thank you Kelly!!
This worked for two of the three printers (the pesky Dell is still printing lines) but I'd call that a success!
