First I like to find out the word to use for this kind of prinitng, i.e. cover and back cover on one side, then inside cover and inside back cover on the other side, then page 2 and whatever seond last page on one side, etc.

Can Acrobat 8 Pro do this kind of printing, i.e. two statement size pages on one size of a landscape ltr size paper, so that I can use those printed pages to make duplex printing on the printer and then finally fold in the centre and add my two staples to bind the pages together.

Statement page size is just half of a letter size 5.5" x 8.5" and I am producing a church song book using letter size paper to print two pages and then fold into half to make a 5.5" x 8.5" song book.

Any tips or advise would be appreciated.
Thank you kindly,
Joseph

You're talking about imposing the PDF pages to achieve a finished and bound piece. Your piece would be what's referred to as "Saddle Stitched".

Acrobat doesn't handle imposition on it's own. There are some plug-ins available to enable imposition in Acrobat (i.e. - Quite Imposing), but I don't use them, so can't guide you on the particulars. I prefer to let the rip/printer device's imposition software handle that part. If you're having a professional printer output your piece just ask them...I'm sure they'll be able to help you no problem.

Thank you kindly. Yes, the word I am looking for is 'imposing' and I was successful in getting my eDocPrinter PDF Pro driver to do it, somehow forgot the steps to repeat it again. Anyway, your answer is great and clear and hope someone with the same question can benefit from your reply. Thanks again.

For those who are interested in creating a statement size (5.5" x 8.5") booklet, use Microsoft Word to do each page of the content first. Paper size custom setting to 8.5" high x 5.5" wide or select the 'statement' page size.
The magic of 'impose' printing happens in the Page Setup of Word. You have to select 'Book fold' for Multiple Pages in the Pages section, and for Paper Size, select Letter. You will not see the impose printing in Preview mode, but you will get it if you print to your Distiller, and I am using eDocPrinter PDF Pro as my PDF engine and in second, you get front cover and back cover on one side, page 2 and second last page on one side, etc.

Instead of spending money on add-on to Acrobat, use your Word program and with the proper Page Setup, your imposed printing will be done in no time. For those who are interested, I can email to you the screen captured images of the setting I did to Word Page Setup. I believe you can do the same for 11x17 page size for a 8.5x11 booklet size with the same principles.

When printing in Acrobat, first send all the odd pages to print and I have asked for printing the last page first and the first page last. So after the odd pages got printed, you have to reorder those printed pages so that the last page is on top of the printed pages and then put them back into the paper tray (make sure you have the blank side either face down or up depending on your printer's requirement). Then send the even pages to print. When they are all printed, fold in the middel and apply your staples to do the 'saddle stitch' binding. Your statement size booklet is ready for use.

Just sharing.
