Firstly hello to everyone, I have just joined your forum after searching for some answers on my problem!

I am PC and MAC based and have been using Acrobat since version 2.

Just recently when I click on preflight tool the dialogue box no longer opens. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm on version 7.0.9. on PC using XP pro.

Thanks in advance

Thorny

Hi --

That sounds like a configuration problem. Choose Help > Repair Acrobat Installation and let the program check for any errors. There's no logical reason why your Preflight tools have disappeared.donna.

Hi donna,

thanks for the suggestion - but it didn't work. I've tried clicking on Tools-print production, Advance and Ctrl_Shift x. But nothing happens.

Have you tried uninstalling and re-installing Acrobat?

I was hoping not to have to ;-)

From past experience it has never been an easy process to uninstall and re-install Acrobat. Then re-install all the updates, then check what effects this has on my other printers (including network ones), other versions of Acrobat - require an uninstall and re-install (in the right order). Checking which programs need further fiddling and general other conflicts. I have a lot of legacy software on this machine.

As I am currently really busy and under a lot of pressure - I can't afford time out yet to do a re-install and risk any problems that will stop me working.

Many thanks

do you have multiple versions of Acrobat on your PC? If so, maybe that is the problem. You can do this on a Mac, but I don't know how well it works on a PC. I've had problems with multiple Acrobat versions on a PC.

Yes, I've had multiple versions installed over the years. I've been using preflight without problem - it just decided to dissapear one day! I hadn't altered anything, just installed the updates. Hmmmm thinking about that - perhaps one of the recent updates has caused a conflict!

Might have to bite the bullet - but don't want to upset Framemaker or Quark 4 as I have current projects in progress.

Cheers

I would suggest, being on the PC, that you only have one single version of Acrobat installed. And I would expect the ideal way to do that would be to uninstall all versions of Acrobat, then reinstall the latest version that you have. Or even upgrade to Acrobat 8 Professional, if possible.

I know, easy for me to say and for you to do, but it may save you time and effort down the line. I've given up trying to figure out why things don't work and typically just either re-boot or reinstall.

HI Mark,

I know you're right. I was vainly hoping for another solution! I haven't been asked to support Acrobat 6 or below for some time now so perhaps there are no longer any good reasons to keep it. I use a postscript driver for Quark 4 most of the time and sometimes for Framemaker. I have to wait for more funds to be available before I upgrade - as it makes sense to upgrade the professional creative suite.

Thanks
