Print button in Acrobat 9 Pro takes a long time to respond

I am having a problem printing my PDF files. When a PDF file is open and I either click the print icon, or select file>print, my system suddenly bogs down and I can't do anything for approx 30-45 seconds. If during this time I click ctl+alt+del it will tell me adobe and the adobe print window aren't responding (even though at this point the print window has yet to appear on the screen). If I don't end task and just wait eventually the print window will appear and then it will print as usual. However if I do not have my PDF open and I just right click on the PDF icon and select print, it will print no problem. I am not having this issue in any other application. I have had this version of Acrobat for approx. a year now (with the same system and printer) and just started experiencing this problem about a month ago. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 9.0, Windows

Perhaps you can provide some information about the type of printer (PostScript, PCL, etc.) you are printing to and printer manufacturer and model?

Also, have you updated Acrobat 9 to the latest version (9.3.1) or is it the original installed version?

I believe it is a PCL printer (HP Laserjet 2300L) & its a local printer.I have the latest version (9.3.1) of Acrobat.

I am experiencing the same problem. Click print, wait a very long time and after 30 or more seconds the print window appears.
I am using Windows XP, SP3 and print to up to 6 different printers. I am printing from my laptop from 3 different locations (each 50 miles apart and on different networks). Also printing to a USB printer shows the same delay.

Please advise

If one or more of the printers in your selection list is accessed via a network, and that printer is for any reason offline, Windows will impose a default timeout while it waits for a response - and Acrobat (or any other application asking for a printer device context) just has to sit there until the handle is returned.

Sure, but the printers are on-line and with any other application I do not have the problem. It only occurs with Adobe Acrobat Pro 9

But is the printer in an energy saving mode or in a sleep mode. If so you may need to wait for the printer to wake up of warm up.

I don't think it has to do with the printer. This happens while I am waiting for the print window in Adobe to appear. Once the print window appears then I choose which printer I want to send it to (once the print window appears, everything runs as usual).

The lag is occurring after the print icon is clicked (or file>print is selected) and before the actual print window is displayed.

I agree fully. There is a significant delay between the click and the appearance of the print window

This fix worked for me. I went back and looked at all of the printers I have in the network or shared and deleted all those that were no longer online, and now the PDF's print in a matter of seconds. Just like they used to. Hope this helps!
