Print dialogue box won't open or takes ages

I've had a problem for some time where the print dialogue box takes at least 30-40 seconds to open every time I want to print a pdf file out of Adobe Reader. I've always upgraded to the most recent version once I get a prompt but the problem seems to be getting worse & worse. Today I upgraded to the latest Adobe Reader X and I simply can't get the print dialogue box up at all. After several minutes the application goes into "Not Responding" mode and has to be terminated.

We have other computers with the same problem (ie of the slow emergence of the print dialogue box) but have not upgraded them to Reader X. All computers are on Windows XP.

I note there was a similar post several weeks ago which got no replies and am hopeful of a better response this time. Grateful any assistance.

Thanks, PaulBKal

Are any of your printers networked? If Windows enumerates the list of printers and one or more of them are mounted on unavailable network paths (such as a share via a computer that's not switched on) it can wait some time for the network request to time out.

I have a very similar problem with Arocbat X, I have heard about the network printer problem but I was always loath to delete them since I will have to re-install them again, but this time I did! I deleted every network printer and basically had only Adobe Acrobat X installed!!! Still the same problem!! when I open a PDF file and try to print it, the printe dialogue takes about 20 seconds or so to open and while that is hapenning, in the top Programme Bar the message "(not responding)" appears after Adobe Acrobat Pro as I said for about 20 seconds or so. It drives me crazy! I have an HP dv8 with the i7 processor and 7GB memory etc. etc. so it is not a hardware problem and besides the problem only happens when printing from Acrobat. Any ideas?? Oh another thing, when I login into my computer with another Profile the problem does not exist the print dialogue opens instantaneously.. So it is something that is confined to my Profile ... but what and where! I tried to compare the two profiles for anything that is under Adobe copying stuff to the problamatic profile but no use...

Sorry Raihani, I have no idea, I'm a computer user rather than a tech. But I do have a similar problem in that a computer runs fine in anyone else's profile but slows dramatically in mine. I tend to do disk clean-ups regularly and now avoid installing anything that is not strictly business, but aside from that, I just put up with a slow computer.
