There are some documents, while printing in Acrobat reader or acrobat pro that will print some unintelligible symbols. I have a Compaq IJ650 printer and I am running Windows XP. How can this problem be fixed?

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 8, Windows

Most likely the fonts where not embedded in the documents and the font is being substituted. If you have the offending font available on your system, make sure it's loaded and available to the system in your Fonts folder.

You can check font embedding in the Document Prtoperties (Ctrl + D) and click Fonts.

If I am not mistaken, I did as you suggested and I still get these unintelligible symbols when I print. The documents said that the font are imbedded. When I printed these same documents in Adobe reader 6, I had no problem. Can you help me please, this is maddening.

Hmmmm. There could be a number of different problems to diagnose. Your printer may be having problems printing a particular font. The PDF author may have tried to stylize a font that can't be rendered by your printer. Or perhaps another problem. At this point, the only thing I can suggest is to start seaching forums and tech centers on the Web to see if someone recommends a fix for a simialr problem. If you do find a solutin, please come back and post it here. Likewise I'll do the same if I can find a fix.

I have the same problem:

Acrobat 7 Professional instead of letter fonts prints some symbols (in all documents)

All fonts are embedded!
GSView prints this .pdf without problem

I have to printers: HP Deskjet 959c and HP LaserJet 1320nw. On both of these printers this problem occurse.

When I check the option print as image in Advanced print option the document prints fine, without it the printed version contains only symbols.

The documents are displayed fine, only the printing is a problem.

OKay, if you're experiencing the problem in all documents with a given printer, then there's something going on with printing PDFs to your printer. You might check out your printer developer's Web site and see if they have an updated driver available. Also check Adobe's Web site for reported problems with printing to some printers.

Thanks everyone for your input. I solved the problem, as Ted Padova suggested to download drivers from the printer manufacturer's website. The printer now prints fine.

Thanks for getting back to us. Happy to hear your printer developer has a new driver that works with PDFs.

I have the same problem and tried the same solution (reinstalling printer drivers), but my printing problem still remains.

I'm using Adobe Acrobat Pro 8.1.2 and printing to a Canon MP530 Inkjet printer. Acrobat Pro 8.1.2 instead of letter fonts prints some symbols (in all documents). All fonts are embedded!

When I check the option print as image in Advanced print options the document prints fine, without it the printed version contains only symbols.

The documents are displayed on the screen properly, only the printing is a problem.

I also tried another member's proposed solution: "Try turning off the preference, "use local fonts." I believe in A 7.x it is found under Page Display preference" but that didn't work either.

Please help! This is maddening!
