Printing Crashes my computer

Hi,

I am running XP with SP2 installed. Virtually (70-80% maybe more) everytime I print a .pdf document, it crashes my system. Just as you hit print, the status bar barely appears and then the system crashes. Straight to a black screen and restarts.

I am running Pro Version 8.1.2 with all updates.

It happens with .pdfs that are emailed to me (someone else makes them), from web sites (in the browswer) and even ones that I have created myself. These are just regular .pdfs, nothing fancy, no forms or media in them.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Eric

We have multiple users with the same issue, Windows XP SP2.
Any pdf we try to print to a network printer crashes adobe. Sometimes the doc prints anyway, but crashes adobe.

Any fix or patch?
We are Pro 8.1.2

If Acrobat is crashing have you tried deleting the excess temporary files?
To delete temporary files:

1. Close any open applications.
2. Choose Start > Run, and type command in the Open text box. Click OK.
3. Type each of the following commands, pressing Enter after each command:

c:

cd\

del acr*.tmp /s
4. Type exit to close the Command.com window.

If this doesn't modify the issue, are the print drivers up-to-date? Do you have any problems if you select the "Print as Image" in the Advanced section of the print dialog?
What type of printers are you using? What OS is the printer on? Are these Postscript printers?

Hi,

I saw that suggestion on a previous post. It did not find any of those files.

I have updated all the drivers. I print on a network to a Phaser 8200, non-post script. Do not know the OS for the printer.

I have not tried printing as an image, but will try that a little later today.

FYI - It also seems to take a very long time to print/save a document into the .pdf format. With the old version (4), it was very fast.

Thank you for your help.

We've had similar behavior for several users also. We've tried network and local printers, updated drivers, firmware and some printer settings but nothing has helped. We run Windows XP Pro SP2 and Windows Server 2003 and we use mostly HP laser jets. We have Xerox color printers and we can print to them okay. Typically we print from Acrobat Standard 7, but have tried Reader 8 and have the same result.

The strange thing is that it just started happening without any changes which made me think it was tied to an update. We tried uninstalling/installing Acrobat again without updates but had the same result. Could it be tied to a Windows update?

I tried the "Print as Image" option today and that seemed to help one user, but not others.

I'd be happy to hear any other ideas to try as I am running out of them.

Thanks.

We've done registry cleaning with a third party product and that has seemed to fix most of our printing problems.
