With a PowerMac G5 running Mac OS X 10.5.2 using Adobe Reader and Acrobat 8.1.2 to print a PDF document receive error massage box with "The document could not be printed" with not other information. All other applications print to default network printer, Brother HL-5170DN on local network. Same error is received when printing to other USB connected printers. An earlier version of Reader 8 did print.
Attempted removal and reinstallation of Adobe Acrobat Professional, removal of preference files and caches, Disk Utility repair of permissions, using other user logins, normal, admin and root all with the same result. Found very few references to the error message using Google and several forum searches none with specific solutions. Adobe web site only offers generic printer troubleshooting, none of which helped the issue.
I experienced exactly the same problem about two months ago under OSX 10.5.2. I reset the print system by removing all printers then re-launched Acrobat and performed a 'Repair' under the HELP menu. This will rebuild the Adobe PDF printer but you must then rebuild any other printers you've been using.
Let us know if this helps?
Take care,
Jon
I've been using Acrobat since v1.0 and still get amazed by its power. An Acrobat ACE since 1999
