settings for print

The "problem" is, that is is not a problem of Acrobat or the printer.
It's a problem of the process itself.

The printer recognized that the printing format does not match the format of the paper in the paper tray. So the printer stops and generally ask you to add paper with the suitable format to the bypass tray. By pressing GO you only force the printer to print out the document even it may not fit to the paper (risk of paper jams and contamination of the printer).
You can't change this behavior of the printer, cause it's implemented to avoid contamination of the printer with toner that wouldn't be printed on the paper because of a to small paper size.
All laser printers use this function.

You can choose "fit to paper size" in the print dialog. The document will be scaled to the paper size of the standard paper tray of the current selected printer.

Thanks for replying radzmar. I should have added that I have 2 paper trays, one for letter & one for legal. The settings are set to pull from the appropiate tray and fit to that size. This is one reason I am baffled. If you have more ideas, please let me know

Well, check the Accessories dialog of the printer's properties. Make sure the default paper source is set to "Auto Select".
The printer driver then automatically selects the tray with the fitting size.

It is. The printer works with most packages. A select few of the venders sending me packages are the only ones that I have a problem with. That is what is frustrating. I have looked for differences in settings between pkgs that work and those that do not. I cannot find any different settings on the main menu. I am not a pro on this stuff so I wonder if there is a setting somewhere I don't know about that comes from those particular venders. Thoughts?

Is the document format on the affected files definitively letter or are they set to a custom format that only has the same dimensions of a letter format?
If so, the printer handles the documents as it has a wrong format and shows the described problem.

Another point may be thr printer driver itself.
I'm a service engineer for copiers and printers and watched often problems while printing PDF's using a PostScript driver.
You can test the printout with a PCL driver for your printer, they often work better.

I am not sure how to check the document format for letter or custom. I looked under document properties and each page was described for what is was. (I may be looking at the wrong thing). To further show my ignorance...what is a PCL driver and where would I find it for this printer?

Thanks for the info. I tried the PCL driver and it cured the problem of stopping in between pages but it now prints everything on the same size page as the 1st page. I have tried different settings but I cannot get it to choose from the appropiate tray for paper size (in mixed packages).
I appreciate y'alls help. If you have anymore ideas, I would gladly try them.

Did you assign the paper sizes in the "Accessories" tab of your new printer driver?
After installation they are set to undefined by default.

Also check the printer properties dialog.
In the "Advanced" tab make sure, the scaling is set to "OFF".
