The majority of our print requests need to be done in the Signature booklet format (11x17 - folded in half w 2 staples in the middle). We use Process manager (Xerox Freeflow Server) for the imposition and output.
My problem arises in the fact that 80% of my customers submit not "Print Ready" files. Signature requires the file to be a multiple of 4 before the imposition occurs. Which normally wouldn't be a problem, except that the customer requires that their copyright info and revision numbers are printed on the outside back cover...
I was wondering if a script, etc... , would work that could count the number of pages, and if the number of pages in the file isn't a multiple of 4, to add a file before the last page. If this is possible, I was thinking of creating 3 files. One with 3 blank pages, another file with 2 blank pages, and finally a third file with 1 blank.
So as an example, if the original document has 14 pages, a script would then insert the file containing 2 blanks before the last page, bring the total number of pages to 16. Which I would then drop into the Hot Folder workflow so it can finish off the imposition and output to one of our printers...
I'm mainly asking: can this be done? And if yes, what level of difficulty is involved?
Thanks in advance,
Bill
You will need the Enfocus PitStop plugin.
By using the Profile editor you can check if a page is a multiple of 4 and tell it to add blank pages until it's a multiple of 4. screen capture below (as if you could miss it). This is a starting point...automation is possible, but you must read up on the details yourself...hey, it's Friday...I want to relax and have a beer. Here's the the link to the PitStop manual for your reference.
