My client wants to be able to e-mail a promo package and I'm wondering if PDF is the right way to go. It will contain video, among other things. I currently use Acrobat 8 and don't want to upgrade just yet if I don't have to. My concerns:
I'm not sure the benefits of embedding video in a PDF for e-mailing. Wouldn't having it available on a website be more accessible? A PDF would allow it to be viewable without having an internet connection, but I assume the users would need to have Acrobat Reader 9 installed.
How many people are using the latest version? If they cannot access the promo package from a website, my feeling is they're not tech savvy and wouldn't have Acrobat 9 and would just be frustrated and not update it even if prompted.
Any recommendations?
Thank you,
Jo
You seem to understand the situation pretty well. The benefits to having the video online is that it is easy to send out to a wide audience. The real benefits to using pdf are the ability to easily keep it private, facilitate offline viewing, and being able to bundle it with additional content.
You will face the problem that some will not have the required reader, however with the viewer being free it isn't difficult to get your audience to upgrade. I don't know the statistics on reader 9 penetration.
