Setting up TouchUp in Preferences

I am fairly new to using Adobe Acrobat and we just recently upgraded to the 8 Professional version. I am unable to edit using my TouchUp tool for one. It gives me a prompt stating I must "Choose [a] page/objector editor" in Preferences. How do I know what file to select?

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 8, Windows

You're obviously using the TouchUp Object tool and you must be selecting Edit Object from a context menu. (Or Alt/Option double clicking the object or text).

Here's what's going on. Acrobat provides you access to two external editors. For images you can edit the image externally in Adobe Photoshop. For objects (this includes vector art and text) you can edit these in Adobe Illustrator. By default your external editors are selected automatically when you install Acrobat if Photoshop and/or Illustrator are installed on your computer.

My guess is that you don't have Photoshop and/or Adobe Illustrator installed on your computer and Acrobat doesn't know what editor to open to edit your images or objects (including text). Hence you get the dialog box.

If you open the Preferences (CTRL/Command + K) and click TouchUp in the left pane, you'll see buttons that enable you to identify an image and an object editor.

Now, so far I answered the question you asked. If you are hoping to edit text in a PDF document, then you're going about it all wrong. There are other tools/methods to use for editing text in PDF files. If you're trying to edit images, you need to install either Photoshop or Photoshop Elements and you need to choose the editor in the TouchUp Preferences.
