Hi,
I'm am trying to have a mp3 play when the pdf is opened. Right now it works on my computer with Acrobat Pro, but not on the other computers that have Reader. We did this last year, but no one remembers how we did it differently.

Here are the steps we used.

Tools>Multimedia>Sound
Drag a box, browse for the mp3 file, click advanced options and change Enable When to: The page containing the content is opened, hit OK.

Not sure why this doesn't work.
Thanks for any insight into this!

Hi,

please help us to help you:
Acrobat version?
Reader version?
OS?
Can you share a sample file?

We have Adobe Acrobat Pro and Reader 9.4.0. We are using PC computers running Windows 7.

Also, I wanted to mention that the audio does play in Reader if you click the play button, it just doesn't play upon opening as it does in Pro.

I don't see a way to attach the file, so you can review. :(

Is there a way to change the audio file connected to the player in a PDF? Perhaps if there is I can use the PDF file from last year (that plays on opening in Reader and Pro). When I click properties I do not see anywhere that you can browse for a new audio file to select.

Thanks for your help!

Hi,
I am not allowed to update any software at work and asking to made updates could take months. :( Is there anyway to have a pdf play an mp3 on opening with the current versions? We have a pdf file that works properly that was created last year. Not sure what versions of the software we had then.

I'm familiar with DropBox and SendNow, but where do I email the link to?

Thanks!

Email it to yourself, then copy-paste the received link in this topic.

Sure!
Search for "Launch Settings tab" on this page: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Acrobat/9.0/Professional/WSEFB9EAF3-1254-4e67-9239-E773D8C48568.php

Unfortunately those are the directions I used in the Launch Settings tab and Activation Settings. I've followed all the directions exactly with no luck.

Here's the dropbox link. Now, the files play on opening on the two computers I tested that have Adobe Acrobat Pro, but not on the two I tested that have Reader 9.4.0. Most of the company has Reader. When the file is open in Reader the play/pause button has to be clicked twice. Almost like the first click activates it and the second click plays it. Maybe this is some insight into the problem?

Thanks again for your help and patience.

Hi,

there is a serious bug in these files: delete the MP3 file and re-import it,

I tried using Acrobat X.1 and Acrobat 9.4.6: it works fine.

Oh dang. I'm about to give up. I started over.
Created TIF file >> made PDF >> Added audio file >> saved.
Same problem - doesn't play automatically in Reader.

I tried a different mp3 - same problem.
I tried used a different computer with Acrobat Pro - same problem.

At least the design makes me laugh. X-mas rave party at the office. ha

I uploaded the new file to dropbox labeled NEW_TEST.PDF
Maybe you can look at that file?

I forgot to say: your files never start the MP3 on my computers, nor with Reader X nor with Acrobat 9 and X.
I guess a bug in version 9.0.0.0…

Try this one, starting from NEW_TEST.PDF, I had deleted your MP3 and imported another one (64 Kb) using Acrobat X.1, it seems to works fine on both Reader and Acrobat:

Thanks Merlin,
That one works. I have to believe it must be a problem with our software, since it needs updating.
