Acrobat "Protect PDF" service ??????? PLEASE HELP

I read about Adobe's service that you can subscribe to that will let you protect pdf's in the way I want to protect mine... here: https://createpdf.adobe.com/cgi-feeder.pl/ppdf_faq

I need help please??? Adobe's web sites and the way they are set up are the MOST USER-UNFRIENDLY crap information that I've seen on the web. Having said that, I can't figure out if I can use their Protect PDF service with Acrobat 9 ??? Or does it have to be Acrobat 8 ??? Their instructions only mention Acrobat 8. I really don't want to go back to 8 unless I have to.

2nd question... through all the crap Adobe has on ALL their "Support" pages, does anyone EVER get a phone number and talk to someone that REALLY answers their question??? I've sent 3 emails in to ask a simple install question and I NEVER heard back from Adobe (it's been 3 weeks)..... Does anyone actually get answers ?
I spent $1200 last year for a "Silver Support" package and asked about 12 questions over the course of a year and NOT ONE one them got answered. Mostly I got, "we don't answer those kind of questions".

Anyway, I'd appreciate any help about the Protect PDF online service of Adobe's.

Thanks! Rod

Looks like you can use this on version 7 and higher. It appears that Adobe has incorporated a policy server in the Create a PDF Online Service. I'm sure it will work with version 9 since most of what you're doing is online and not specifically in Acrobat. If you're interested in working with a policy server inside of Acrobat check out the Adobe Document Center. I've checked it out and it works with version 9.

You can also check out the AUC Team blog entry Setting an Expiration Date on a PDF with Adobe Document Center for more information on how to integrate Document Center with Acrobat 9.

Also, you can feel free to ask your installation question in our Deployment and Installation forum -- you'll probably get a quick answer.

I've looked thru all the links I could find from the document center link you provided, but I can't find any information on what it will COST after the free trial period is over.

You'll need to contact someone in Adobe sales to help you answer that questions at 888-649-2990.

This is for ANYONE that hasn't tried to call Adobe for help.....

1. You call 2 to 3 different numbers you find on their web site until you get the correct phone # for your question.

2. The first person you talk to passes you to another. This happens SEVERAL times until you give up.

3. You try and call again, the person you get seems to know what they are talking about BUT you will find out later (in my case $1200 for a "support package" later) that they didn't know what they are talking about.

4. You give up trying to get answers. Adobe in my opinion has no idea what they are doing as far as phone support. Almost all of the "answers" I received durring my 1 year Silver Support package were: "We don't support that kind of question." Even though 3 people at Adobe told me that the kind of questions I had would be covered by the "Silver Package", they were all either lying or mis-informed.....

This has been my experience with Adobe.

Hopefully such issues will become a thing of the past.
Came across this:

Is the "Adobe Document Center" a part of Adobe Acrobat Pro or is it a separate service we must pay for? Thanks.

The Adobe Document Center is a online service that is free until the end of this year and it is not part of Acrobat Pro but can be used in conjunction with it.

For more information check out the blog entry Setting an Expiration Date on a PDF with Adobe Document Center for detail on how to use Acrobat 9 Pro. and Document Center together.

I have tried to sign up for the free trial; it tells me that the site does not yet support "_" in the email box. It also says my other email account has "been taken". What now?

Do you have an existing Adobe ID? Is so, you can use this. The Adobe ID is different than the one you use for the AcrobatUsers.com site.

Another question; is the Document Center going to replace the Acrobat.com?

At this point they're very different services, so I doubt it. Document Center is an online version of the LiveCycle ES server product Adobe LiveCycle Rights Management ES2.

Okay, so I have used Adobe 9 to post a document to Document Center. I made mulitple entries and would like to remove some of them, but I do not see that instructions to do so are in the "help" file. Help?

I'm assuming you want to remove the policies, correct? The files should still be local. To remove a policy in Acrobat 9 go to Advanced > Security > Manage Security Policies and delete them from this dialog box. You won't be able to delete the default ones but you can delete new ones that you may have created.
