Can’t remove digital ID

I have the following situation:

I had a digital certificate issued by an external PKI on machine A. I exported the certificate as an ‘.fdf’ file and moved it to another machine B. I then successfully imported the certificate into Acrobat by ‘clicking’ on the ‘.fdf. file. The digital certificate can be seen in the ‘Security Settings’, ‘Digital IDs’ window; it is listed with the ‘Storage Mechanism’ of ‘Digital ID File.’ I want to remove it. When I select it and the choose ‘Remove ID’ I get the following error:

Removing a digital ID is only permitted if the ID was created by Adobe Reader or Acrobat version 8.0 or later.

Which is true since it was created by a PKI. Any great ideas on how to remove it?

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 8.1.1, Windows

The error message you're receiving is saying that Acrobat can only remove Self-Sign certificates, which suggests that this is not a Self-Sign certificate. How was this Digital ID created? Also, you mention that the Digital ID is listed under the Storage Mechanism of "Digital ID File". Is this an ID on a smart card or token?

I removed a digital ID stored in a .p12 file by simply removing the original file and clicking "Refresh" in Security Settings. (Apparently, it was only a reference, not a copy.) This should work for you, too.
