Getting Adobe to recognize my digital signature

Hello,

I can't get Adobe to recognize my digital signature. The Help instructions state that I should:
"If you want to include an image of your handwritten signature in the digital signature, scan your signature, and save it as an image file. Place the image in a document by itself, and convert the document to PDF. "

When I get to the step where I am pointing Adobe at the file that I want to use as my signature, it does not recognize this file. It seems to be in the wrong file type, but I can't figure out how to save it as a .p12 or .pfx file.

Help me?

My Product Information:
Acrobat Standard 9.0, Windows

The image you want to add to your digital signature must be a PDF, see "Create the signature appearance" in Acrobat's help.

The P12 and PFX are your encrypted signature file and Acrobat will create it. You can copy this file and move as necessary to use your digital signature on different systems.

It has been saved as a pdf, but when I go through the steps to add it from a file, the only file types it allowing me to search for are the p12 and pfx files.

Have you created your Digital ID for Acrobat?

You will need one before you can modify your signature's apperance and add an image.

Perhaps I haven't. Where can I find instructions on that? When I search on digital id it only brings back digital signatures... which is all the stuff I've been looking through.

With version 8 Professional, I found the information under "Digital ID" in the Index for the "Complete Help" and the same article is listed under "Digital Signatures" index entry. Note this says it is for "Self Signing Signatures" but the certificate that is created is used for self signing and signature fields. The signature field is a form display of the signed document.
