Getting around a password (Acrobat Pro 6.1)

I'm taking over for another person, and am largely in charge of creating new pdfs and marketing material. Anywho, the previous person passworded several pieces that need to be edited, and no-one knows the password. I've tried opening it in illustrator to do my edits that way, but I still have run into the password problem.
Any help would be appreciated!

Unfortunately, if you don't know the password, you won't be able to make the edits at this point. Any chance you can locate the original document from which the PDF was made?

Also, sometimes security can be set to disallow changes but you can still copy/paste. Perhaps the file can be recreated this way.

If there was ONLY an owner password, then it is possible to find inexpensive
software could totally ignore all security in the PDF. If you had a user
password, this is NOT the case.
One such software is PDFCracker. (I'm not connected with them at all). I realize that Adobe can't mention this type of approach as it could easily lead to unethical behavior; however, since your company owns the file, seems ok to me.
This approach may or may not work, depending on which password is set and possibly the complexity of the password.
good luck
