We want to offer free PDF downloads on our website but want users to JUST be able to print, not copy etc. Have seen the SECURITY settings when "save as PDF" but can't get it to work. Went to PROTECT via Adobe & that did not work. What's up? Thanks.

In Acrobat 9, select File > Properties and under the Security tab select Password security under the Security Method pulldown. At the bottom of the Password Security - Settings dialog under the permission area check the "Restrict editing and printing of the document...." box. Enter a password, and then set it too allow high or low resolution printing but no changes. Click OK. You'll be prompted to re-enter the password , click OK and then save the PDF. Once the PDF is secured, you'll see (SECURED) in the title of the document.

We actually did that several times but the PDF result was still not protected from copying. Will try again. Is an alternate to use the PRO version?

This feature is the same in both standard and pro. What exactly do you mean by protected from copying? Are you referring to copy/pasting the content within the PDF (which is possible to disallow) or are you referring to copying a PDF file (not possible with Acrobat).

Also, if your file has been Reader-enabled (to allow form signing and such) you'll need to save a copy of the PDF then add security and then Reader-enable your file again.

Referring to copying any text within the PDF so as to be able to then paste it into another doc such as Word; or pasting into a blog or website ... in other words, stealing content from the PDF. Thanks for your help -- we can try your latest methods, but if it's NOT possible to protect a PDF from copying, let me know? Thanks...
