The problem if far bigger than the consumer. I a have 2 letters from the VA about their inability to control their contractors. I have also had phone calls from the credit agencies about people trying to use my SSN for credit card applications with wrong information because the U.S. government requires I disclose my SSN on forms I prepare for others. Since the enactment of Social Security in 1934 the numbers were not to be used for anything else, but that was no action take to enforce this.And no one wants to really address this mess.
