Locking a Fillable PDF Form

I have two forms that we send to customers. One is an insurance form that we fill out, sign, and send to customers. I use a digital signature to lock the form from further editing by the customer.

I have another form that we send to the customer, he fills it out & sends it back to us. I would like to be able to lock this form from further editing once it is returned, but the option to lock the document is not available when I attempt to digitally sign it.

From the Adobe Help page:

"If the seed value and document rules allow locking, you can choose to Lock Document After Signing. If you select this option, no further changes to any form fields or addition of visible signatures are allowed. "

Question: What is the seed value? What about this second document would prevent me from having that option to lock the document upon signing? I have been through both docs with a fine-tooth comb, and cannot find whatever setting or parameter that allows locking on one but not the other. I am pulling out what little hair I have left . . . Any help would be appreciated.

Seed values refer to special options associated with a signature field that control the signing experience and actions. If you are using LiveCycle Designer forms, there is a Settings button on the signature object that allows you to set seed values (but you won't find support for the document locking seed until a later version of Designer). If you are using a standard Acrobat form, there is no user interface for setting seed values. You have to use JavaScript commands from the JavaScript console (isn't this retro!). See the section "Controlling Signing with Seed Values" in the "Digital Signature User Guide" on www.adobe.com/go/actobat_developer

As to the document rules of when the lock button is offered: there must be no additional unsigned signature fields and no field locking rules and no seed value that restricts locking. There may be additional restrictions if the form is a LiveCycle Designer form.

Hope this helps.
