Against company policy, others "no longer here" passworded PDfs that we now need to edit. Is there a way to break their password, or another suggested work-around? I can scan and OCR them, but a crack would be preferable.

While it is understandable that you need and maybe should have access to those PDFs, it is not understandable to come onto an Adobe Users forum and ask other users of PDFs to help you circumvent the security they use on their own PDFs. I'm sure you can understand that others who use password security expect their files to be secure, right? Try another avenue for help with this.
Hope this helps,
