Quite new to Acrobat, so pardon the lack of security knowledge... I have created a form with fillable fields, and the form can be saved using adobe reader. This form is for use by folks that have reader, not acrobat. Is it possible to put a password on just some of the fields in the form, and allow other fields to be filled in without a password?

My aim is to distribute a blank fillable entry form to the organizers of an event, have them enter a password to input their event information in the appropriate fields, then save the form. This modified form will then be used by individual participants to enter the event (again in Reader), so I don't want a password on those fields that the general public will use.

There are about 30 or so separate events each year, and I'm trying to develop a standardized form that all the organizers can use. Last year I distributed the form with no password, and it worked for the most part, but there were lots of cases where the organizer's information was changed by the individual entering the event, and I'd like to keep that from happpening. Possible? Pipe dream?

Yes, it's possible. We discussed something very similar just the other day: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3314067

One thing to note is that this approach isn't really secure since the password can easily be discovered, but the vast majority of Reader users will not know how and/or be able to.

Thanks for the prompt response. I have an accomplished son who can help me with that (far beyond my capabilities) but before I ask him for help I'd like to be sure this will do what I need. Do you think your solution will work with this scenario:

I create a save-able pdf with 20 fields for use in Reader, and mark 10 of those fields private. I distribute the form along with the password to the organizers. Individually they make their changes to the 10 private fields and resave the file using Reader. The organizers then make that file available to the public, who would fill out the 10 non-private fields and save, again using Reader.

Yes indeed. That type of scenario is just what that bit of code is designed to deal with.

Lovely! Can't thank you enough. I'll put my IT guy on it right away (aka, my son!)
