Problem using digital signature

I set up a digital signature not long ago and cannot seem to figure out why the drop down menu for signing a document is dimmed. I'm using Acrobat Pro and I can't seem to sign an application form. Did I miss an important step in the set up process? I'd appreciate any suggestions.

The menu may be dimmed if Security has been set on the document to disallow changes. You can check this under the File > Properties > Security tab menu.
