Security Policies

Security policies I have been using for 8 months have stopped working. When I select the policy it does not apply any settings to the PDF. I've deleted the policies and recreated them and still nothing happens. I've been applying security manually for the last couple of months while trying to figure out why this is happening. Any information is appreciated.

If you're absolutely sure that your ID is active and the location of the ID hasn't changed, and the policy is properly configured, you may have something going on with the Acrobat installation. Try to repair the installation Help > Repair Acrobat Installation). If that doen't work, deinstall/reinstall Acrobat.ted

Ted,

Thanks for the response. I have done all you have suggested while trying to work through this problem with no success. What I have found is the following solution.

1. If I want to use my Security Policies, I have to distill the source file (Word) using a distiller setting that includes security.
2. I then open the PDF and remove the security settings.
3. I add signature fields or anything else I want to do to the unsecuried file.
4. I can then select one of my security policies without any problem.

Being able to use Security Policies seems to require have some kind of security set during the distilling process. Most of my source files are Word and it doesn't matter if I select the Adobe PDF menu to create the PDF or manually distill the file. This works but it doesn't seem like this is the method I used in the past. I might be wrong there but I would think I should be able to open an unsecured PDF and apply a Security Policy I have created and not have to manually apply security.

I could still be missing something in identifying the best method for this process.

Thanks again for your response.

Mike
