Hi ironmaiden_200834,

In your message you say you are using Acrobat Reader 9 ( there is no product named that- the free PDF viewer is called Adobe Reader 9), but in the Product info you list Acrobat Standard 9. How to apply security depends on which product you are actually using-

Security cannot be applied to PDFs with the free Adobe Reader 9.

In Acrobat Standard 9, in the main menu Advanced >Security >Encrypt with Password.Hope this helps,

Hi,

I am trying to find a way of setting password security that is then available to users in acrobat reader.
At the moment I set the security in the normal way in Acrobat professional 8, but I need some acrobat reader users to be ablle to enter the password so they can print the file. This is because we put the secure file in the public domain but it must also be available to those in the office who are allowed to print/save the file too.

There has to be a way?
Thanks

Hi gnatalie2,

Sure, you can do this. With the document open in Acrobat 8 Pro go to Advanced -Security- Password Encrypt, then check the box "Require a password to open the document" set a password in the text field "Document Open Password."
You will need to provide this password to anyone who needs to open the pdf.

If you do not want users to be able to make changes to the pdf beyond filling in fields and printing, you can also set the Permissions in that same dialog with a different password that only you know and do not provide to end users. You can allow printing and filling in form fields by choosing those options in the dropdown boxes in the Permissions section.

Hope this helps,
