Hi,

I've just installed Reader X. I need to sign some PDF documents i created with Open Office Writer.

I can't find the "Tools" Menu in Reader as explained in Adobe Support when i open my PDF documents, where it is supposed to be the "Sign" function.

Thank you for your help,

My Product Information:
Reader 10.0.1, Windows

Hi raphaelpomares,

Only PDFs that have had Rights Enabled can be signed with the free Adobe Reader software. Applying those rights can only be done with either Acrobat Professional or the LiveCycle Reader Rights Server. If you re-read the Help file on signing I'm pretty sure it will confirm this. If a PDF does have Rights Enabled, then the Tools button becomes visible when opened in Reader, otherwise it is not visible.

Hope this helps,

Dimitri

Hi,

Having read this thread i thought it might help me but alas, using Acrobat Pro didnt work.

A colleague created a PDF file using Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 , and set Document permission to NO Security, ie Everything Allowed, ( I have screenshot ) , especially focused on 'Signing : Allowed'.

When i receive the document and open in Adobe Reader X 10.1.1 for OSX 10.6.8 and check the Document permissions i have the following NOT ALLOWED.
Document Assembly
Signing
Creation of Template.

Why is it that he sets all the Document restrictions to ALLOWEDl , and yet when i open it up i get such restrictions? Your thoughts would be most welcome, to fix, as i need to SIGN this document!

cheers
Pete

You're looking at the wrong security settings.
The setting is under Acrobat > Advanced > Enable usage rights...
Send it back to him and have him apply the correct setting.
