The "Internet Access from PDF Filies outside the web browser" section" under My Trust Manager setting in Preferences doesn't allow me to Manage Internet Access (grayed out) when I click on "Change Settings."

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro Extended 9.3.1, Windows

Do you have multiple versions of Acrobat and/or Reader installed on the same system? Has your version of Acrobat been packaged by your IT department?

Mike,

I would have to concur with Lori with regards to the packaging answer. Trust management settings can easily be locked out through the use of Da' Customizer* in packaging Reader.

For Reader 9 there have been several 'fork-lift' upgrades that were provided by Adobe and had to be performed. A fork-lift upgrade is one where to perform the update you have to actually remove the prior version completely. In essance you are performing the equivalent of a full version installation.

During those transition points each reinstallation has to be completely repackaged with Da' Customizer. If the person reworking the package didn't use the same transforms and settings as before or made changes to them those can change the behavior of the new installation.

* Da' Customizer is my colloqualism for the Adobe Customization Wizard. Which is a bit misnomer as it only works on Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader.

Security lock-out settings set with Da' Customizer cannot (ok, extremely difficult to) be adjusted locally by the users. Even with Registry access and Administrative rights.

Maybe not the answer you were looking for, but hopefully an answer that now allows you to ask the right questions with the right people.

Thanks.

Not being an IT guy, I am easily gobbledygooked. I have uninstalled Reader; if I re-install Pro Extended, will that help?

You might try using the Help > Repair Acrobat Installation command to see if it corrects the issue. This will only work if your version of Acrobat has not been "packaged" incorrectly as Doug mentions.
