Acrobat 3D callouts

I am doing three dimensional reconstruction of microscopy images and turning them into 3D pdf format. These 3D images need to be properly annotated. I used 3D toolkit (callouts function) to annotate the images but when they are later changed into PDF, these callouts are not seen. I saw the same question posted on other acorobat 3D forum and this is still not resolved.

My Product Information:
Acrobat 3D 8.0999999999999996447286321199499070644378662109375, Windows

I am not familiar with this "3D Toolkit" you mention, but Acrobat 3D 8 FULLY support annotations on 3D objects.

The 3D Callouts that you are creating in the 3D Toolkit do not export to the U3D file format. If you want to annotate the 3D content, you can use the Acrobat 3D Commenting and Markup capabilities to put comments and markup entities on 3D views. This is different behavior than a 3D callout as the Acrobat 3D markups will only appear in a specific view and will disappear when you change views. You can have as many views as you like of a given 3D model and annotate each one.

Hello Jim,
we use the latest Acrobat versions.
"The 3D Callouts that you are creating in the 3D Toolkit do not export to the U3D file format."
I don't want our customers to by the full Acrobat version to see the callouts!
I made a test with RH extension which you did NOT mention. I have a callout layer within the reader - unfortuantely empty! So the process should work, but I can't find any check marks to activate.
Please think over your answer and try a better one.
Hanns Georg ;-)

Can you post (or email me) a sample PDF that demonstrates the problem so that I can see if the problem is a PDF issue, a Reader issue or something else?

Reader 8 supports all the same 3D viewing tools as Acrobat does. When a document is "reader enabled for commenting", then Reader also has full 3D commenting features as well.

Hello HannsGeorg-

Sorry if my answer wasn't clear or was confusing. The issue is that you can do more with the Toolkit than the Acrobat viewers (Reader, Std, Pro, 3D) support. Specifically callouts that you generate in the Toolkit will not be displayed in any of the PDF Acrobate viewers and thus there is no full version that can be purchased to enable this to work.

What I suggested is that you consider using the markup and annotation tools in Acrobat 3D to create annotations on the 3D Views as a workaround. Anyone with the free Adobe Reader will be able to view these and as Leonard points out, if you 'reader enable' the pdf document, they can even measure, cross section and create new markup/annotations and reply to the ones that you created.
