Acrobat 9 Extended - Vector Export: .AI, or SVG

We are converting SolidWorks .SLDASM files into Adobe 3D, obtaining the desired views then exporting them to .SVGs to be included in PDF/paper documentation.

Acrobat 8 had the ability to export Vector into .AI and .SVG. We just downloaded a trial version of Acrobat 9 Extended and the ability to do this 'seems' to virtually eliminated. If there are any ways of exporting vector 'captures' so we can take them into .AI or another program to create .SVG's please let us know. Perhaps there is a plug in available.

I have exactly the same issue - I am trying to export specific views I have setup in Acrobat to Illustrator. In fact, this is the primary reason I bought these two software packages.

Hi There,

I just sent linda a detailed email. I can't put all of the detail into this reply, but I can send you an email too. You can export either DXF or EMF (Windows Metafile). Both formats can be read by Illustrator. You want to select the window to vector tool in 3DR. I will try to do a blog article or podcast on this soon. Sounds like others are likely to ask this question.

Thanks,
Doug

Doug, it took me a few minutes to find this export option after upgrading from Acro 3D v8.0. I am finding that neither of the exported formats will import well into AI CS3, but if I convert the DXF to a DWG (using any CAD program that can read DXF and write DWG), the DWG format will import perfectly. Are you seeing this? I'm working with 3D models from either Pro/E WF 3.0 or SolidWorks 2007.

Changing orientation of components in an assembly doesn't work quite as nice as it was prior to 9 Pro Ext unless I'm missing how you can move a component's default coordinate. Think of a hinge. The default coordinate is generally in the middle of the part rather than the axis of the hinge point. In 9 Ext I'm rotating the component then moving it in two directions to get it back to where it should be.

Grouping components into a new "sub-assembly" is another function that has changed or is gone unless I'm missing that as well.

Thanks!
Rex
