I have been trying to create 3D PDF's from Wildfire 4 from time to time over the last couple of month's. My two biggest problems with it are that the spin center makes spnning the models extremely awkward. Also, for PDF's the file sizes are extrememly large and makes the PDF creation of assemblies not really worth the effort. I've seen examples on the adobe website that spin smoothly and don't for the size of the assemblies the PDF size doesn't seem nearly as bad as the ones I create. Are Adobe and PTC working on these issues? Is there a work around to fix some of these problems? Have I missed some settings or something? Thanks.
I have found that the 3D.pdf format is very sluggish when displaying 3D data from several 3D packages. There is a solution, unfortunately it comes in the form of a third party app that costs lots.
Deep Exploration, allows the simplification of 3D geometry. It can reduce the number of points, effectively reducing the polygon count and reducing the file size, thus making more manageable files. This is not much help in the architectural world as many objects are little more than extruded rectangles with no 'excess' points to remove.
It appears that free software packages like Blender can also reduce the polygons, however, I am not sure how well any metadata is retained.
