A number of Adobe Standard 8.0 users are getting this error message. The are new XP workstations, Adobe Reader was never installed. Original PDFs' were also created with Adobe Standard 8.0, just on a different computer.

Thanks

My Product Information:
Acrobat Standard 8.0, Windows

Hi smwaldbillig,

Do the new workstations have all the same fonts installed as the old system? Are all the fonts in the problem PDFs embedded?

Here is an excerpt from an Adobe knowledge base article on this error message but it pertains to Acrobat 7, not 8

"The Acrobat 7.0.5 update replaces some fonts that are required to view PDF files and for extended language support (Hebrew, Arabic, Thai and Vietnamese). If an updated font is missing when a file that requires the font is opened, you receive error messages.
Occasionally, certain fonts are locked by the acrobat.exe process and are not replaced during the update. If you quit Acrobat and then repair the installation, the missing fonts are replaced with the correct version of the fonts."

The full article and fix is at this link-

Hope this helps,

Adobe Standard 8.0 came preloaded along with XP Professional and MS Office 2007. All I did was accept the license before distributing the workstations.

I tried the suggested repair installing on my computer. It did not resolve the problem. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Hi smwaldbillig,

Bummer the fix didn't work. Are any fonts in the PDF unusual ones? I asked about the font because you say the PDF was created on one machine, and the error is on the new machines. If the PDF uses a font that is not installed on the new machines Acrobat would typically substitute with a similar font that is installed, but if it can't find anything similar that could maybe cause this error message.

Hope this helps,

Dimitri

Resolved! Your were right about it being an unusual font. It was a Fixed Asset application creating the PDF. All the users that were getting this error message, did not have the Fixed Asset application installed on their computer. It was a True Type font, I copied it over to the C:\Windows\Fonts. Had to go into Adobe Distiller, didn't really do anything but look around. Anyway, it worked. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

I am having this same problem but with documents created on the same computer. I cannot print and get a message saying cannot find or create the font "TimesNewRoman". I've tried the repair and detect twice already to no avail.
