Screen Readers and Tables

I'm using Acrobat 8 Pro. Is there a way to set up a table so a screen reader will read the header of cells' columns before it reads the contents of each cell?

The document I'm working on is a tagged PDF and I don't have access to the original document. I used the Touch Up Reading Order tool to define the table and the Table Inspector to tag the column headers as header cells. I'm not sure if doing this should have the effect I'm looking for; I can't find any information on this.

I would greatly appreciate any advice.

Thanks,
Danny Synk

If you've correctly tagged the table, then screen-reader users will be able to find the table header cells without difficulty.

As to HOW they read the table, in other words, do they read the TH cells before each TD cell - that's up to them. The point with table tagging is that they CAN access the TH cells anytime they need to do so.
