Hi

We are using Acrobat 9 Pro to push out a pdf catalog for review by merchants. The merchants add their comments in reader 9 and then we close down the review, make changes to the original Indesign file and re-publish a revised pdf with the original comments imported, for the merchants to proof.

The issue I am having is all the stickies have my name on them with the on behalf of the original authors name add next. The users don't like it as they cannot search quickly through 300+ comments. Is there a work around so the comments when imported into a revised pdf retain their original authors name and not make me the author-on behalf of

thanks

Graham

We are also experiencing a similar problem in Pro 8 with a shared review process. We use an approval form that several people access via a shared network folder. Each person stamps the form "reviewed' or "approved" with a dynamic stamp. When someone opens the form, stamps that have been posted by others may appear to be authored by the user who opens the document. If you hover your mouse over the stamp, the correct name will appear, but the stamp still reflects the wrong name. This does not occur for just one pc, user, or stamp, but seems to be completely random. I would be more than happy to provide a screen shot if possible.

The annotations will have the same name when reviewers are sharing the same copy of the review file that is kept on the shared network location. As a result of this, on opening the file, the reviewers comment on the file, but all of them are saved to the same file that is kept on the network location.

Here is an example (as it was explained to me):

You have a PDF say abc.pdf which is to be sent for review and is kept at a common shared location. When you initiate a review from Acrobat, Acrobat creates a comment repository (to store the comment XMLs) and abc_review.pdf at the same shared location. Now, when the reviewers get a link to this file and open abc_review.pdf at their respective machines and add/publish/save comments, they all are actually commenting on the same review pdf. (the one at the shared location). So when a reviewers instead of publishing the comments, saves the comments using save as a draft option for a later publish he actually saves it on the abc_review.pdf kept at the network location. If now another reviewer opens this PDF, does nothing and tries to close the PDF, he/she would get the unpublished comments message as the previously added comments have not been published. If second reviewer publishes them the comments get published in his name.

This is the reason why the reviewer sees the comments made by others in his name.

A workaround would be that all the reviewers when they receive a link to the shared review file, save the file locally on their machine before adding any comments. This would ensure that comments are always published in the original reviewers name.

Let us know if this helps,
Lori

thanks-I thought of another work around which is archive the original pdf file after the review closed and then overwrite the original pdf with the second round pdf - this would ensure the comments stayed with the original author. Obviously, if pages change then that is problematic.
