I have created a fillable pdf form in Adobe Acrobat 8.1 Professional. I have "enabled usage rights for Adobe Readers" for the form. End users fill out the form with Adobe Reader 8.x and return the completed form to me via email. In Step#1 of the Shared Review process, if I select one of these forms as the pdf for the shared review and click "Next", I get an error message that says that "The document you have chosen cannot be sent for shared review because the security permissions do not currently allow modifications. Please select another document or change this document to allow modifications". What do I need to do so that this completed fillable form can be used in a shared review? In "Document Properties, the "Security Method" is set to "No Security" for the form. The "Document Restrictions Summary" shows everything is allowed except "Changing the document", "Document Assembly", and "Creation of template pages". I am using Windows XP (SP2). Thanks for your assistance.

I have the same problem and I tried to implement sheryj's fix but how do reset the document security to allow "Changing the document"?
I can see from the security icon that changing the document is not allowed but how do I change that setting? Online help is no help.

You can reset security on your document (if you set if originally) in Acrobat Std. or Pro. under the Document Properties (File -->Properties) Security tab. However, if this is a Reader-enabled PDF, you'll need to perform a Save As first and rename the file (to remove reader-enabling) then add security.You can check to see if the PDF is Reader-enable under the same Document Properties menu under the Security tab as well.

Thank you for that help. The trick ("trick" for me that is) is not to save with the "file save as" but "save a copy". I never thought there would be a difference and thought that a "copy" would have more fidelity to the original than the "save as" which is normally used to save to different formats.

Yes, essentially you're saving a copy and this new copy "disables" the reader-extentions so that you can reset the security.

I've noticed that even without security, if you enable the pdf for Acrobat users in the toolbar instead of in the shared review wizard, it won't allow you to hit 'next'.
If you only allow for Acrobat readers in the wizard, it might work. that's how I ended up fixing the problem

I would suggest that you make a copy of the PDF form and then reset the document security to allow "Changing the document" to see if the error occurs again. You need to set security prior to Reader-enabling the document.
