Typewriter Tool Bar

I was just curious to know why the typewriter function does not work with all PDF documents. Even Secure ones. I was actually trying to fill out a PDF form in Adobe 8.1, a rebate form that is listed as secured and I cannot open the typewriter.

Is there a way around the security to allow for the typewriter function to work?

The availability of the typewriter tool is dependant on a few things:
1. What program you're using (Acrobat or Adobe Reader)
The Typewriter tool is always available in Acrobat Std. or Pro. but only in Reader when the PDF has been Reader-enabled.
2. Document Security
If the document security has been set to disallow changing the document then the Typewriter tool is not available.

I use Acrobat Professional and the security is there on the document so I guess no typewriter.

I just am not too sure why you cannot just use the typewriter on any document as the original document would still be in tact.
