Architechtural/Installation Question

As a newbie to Adobe administration...

Can anyone tell me what (if any) is the architectural relationship
between Adobe Reader and Adobe Professional?

We're trying to standardize on an Adobe configuration in our installed
user-base. Recently one of the sites that our user access has required
Reader 7.0.8 in order to properly access some of the fillable forms on
the site. sure enough... our reader 7.0.1 users got errors when
accessing the forms as did our professional 7.0 users. However, a
hybrid user who had reader 7.0.8 installed "under" professional 7.0 was
able to use the forms.

We're using the professional version because it's easier to
review/post/edit (workflow issues) the documents between attorneys,
secretaries, and paralegals. I've tested that several installation
configurations: reader 7.0 first, upgrade to 7.0.8, then install
professional - This was apparently the only configuration that worked
in all cases. So... it appears that there is some connection between
the two products but no one seems to be able to say what it is.

Now with Reader 8.0 out - we're trying a clean install of reader 8.0
and then instaling professional 7.0... hopefully this will work!!!

Glenn,

have you tried to install Reader 7.08 alone on a computer to access the forms? There should be no difference between a user who has Reader 7.08 and a user who has Reader 7.08 and Acrobat 7 on a comnputer. The Reader software doesn't use any Acrobat components.

Keep in mind that a .0x upgrade (i.e. 7.08) is a maintenance upgrade that usually fixes a bug. It's best to keep all you users upgraded to the latest release of a a product. If you have all users upgrade to Reader 8.0 keep them current with all maintenance uppgrades as they unfold.
