Virtual Printers Disappear after Installing Acrobat Pro 8.0

A couple of applications I use daily require virtual printers (like Microsoft Document Imaging). After upgrading to Acrobat pro 8.1.2 those printers disappeared and I cannot seem to reinstall them. It goes through the whole installation process, says it completed successfully, but no printers. Thinking the problem was with my computer I was issued a new pc, but I am still having the same problem.

We are in the process of testing a third pc, and get the same problem if Acrobat is installed first. When we try installing the virtual printers first they install just fine, but disappear after we install Acrobat.

Is there a way to get Acrobat to play nice with my virtual printers?

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 8.1.2, Windows

I was able to get my virtual printers installed with Acrobat 8.0. When I installed the 8.1.2 upgrade, they dissapeared again.

What OS are you running? Are the virtual printers on a shared network or local? Do the pathnames for the printer contain any extended ASCII or double-byte characters?

I am on Windows XP. The virtual printers are software-based on the local PC and should have normal pathnames (I don't have the exact pathnames). If it helps, the printers are: Microsoft Document Imaging; OnBase Virtual Printer; and RightFax Printer.

After spending 4 hours on the phone with Adobe Tech Support, We finally resolved the problem. Basically it looked like the update did not install properly. When I ran the repair, it repaired Acrobat but took the virtual printers away again, including the Adobe PDF printer this time. What I ended up doing was trying to create a form using Acrobat, then when it couldn't find the Adobe printer, I let Acrobat repair it and roboot. I had to do that 3 or 4 times, but once it was done and I was finally able to finish creating the form, I was able to reinstall all my virtual printers.
