"Bad Parameter" Error

Hello,

I'm using Adobe 6 Pro. I'm trying to insert several Adobe pages into one document, & link them. When I try to insert a document, sometimes it works & sometimes it doesn't. Once I get a "Bad Parameter" error, I can no longer insert any more documents.

This has been an ongoing issue, and I don't remember the fix for it. I think I did something under the properties of the PDF printer, but I just don't remember.

Any advise?

Thanks/

I think you mean you are trying to append several PDF documents together. The "Bad parameter" error is usually related to an error in the PDF format of the document being inserted. Acrobat tries to insert the document, but if there is an error, well, it's ruined. Your best bet is to try reparing the appended document. Close Acrobat. Then restart it and reopen the PDF.

Are these PDFs being created by the Adobe PDF Printer or by another tool? Not all PDF creation tools do it right.

You might also be pushing the system too far. Is there anything unusual about these documents?

Thanks Thomp.
I've closed & reopened numerious times. I've also rebooted, recreated the document, and reinserted the pages in different locations. NOTHING helped!I finally recreated a whole new PDF file, and appended the documents from scratch. That seemed to work, but is not efficient.

I have to download these PDF files from a State website every month. Then I have to append them together, "set destination" for each document, and email them to our staff. What I've done in the past was to just replace the old expired documents with the new downloaded ones. Never had a problem until now.
These PDFs are created by the Adobe PDF Printer, so I think it's something with the PDF printer driver itself???

I'm definetly not pushing the system too far, as these are small files, and there's nothing unusual about them.

I'm not looking forward to next month, when I have to re-invent the wheel all over again. SO if you have any other recommendations, I would greatly apprecaite it!!!

Thanks again for the reply.

If the document is broken then it needs to be repaired before you can work with it. This should happen on a SaveAs, or when the document is opened. If it's too far gone then that's it, you have to start over.

Here are some things to consider.
1. Always do a SaveAs when working with a file like this. SaveAs cleans things up.
2. Working with a document like this is pushing Acrobat to the edge. Really the doc should be created new each time. You could create an Automation Script for downloading, appending the docs, and adding bookmarks. This would save you boatloads of time. If you are not a programmer then it might be worth hiring one for this task.
