Changing Field Types

I just used the Forms wizard to create a PDF form from a non-form PDF document. The The document had a number of Yes and No check boxes for various questions that were being posed. The forms wizard did its magic and converted all of these, but some of the yes/no it converted to a field type of "check box" and others it converted to a field type of "radio button".

So, I don't understand why the wizard would convert some to one type and others to another type but what I most want to know is how do I change the field type? I want all of them to be field type radio button, since I want the user to select only yes or only no in each instance.

So clicking on each field and going to properties shows me all kinds of parameters I can change but the actual type of the field doesn't appear to be something I can change. Is that hidden somewhere I am not seeing?

I would rather not delete the check box fields and then add them back as radio buttons, but its looking like that is what I will have to do.

This is in plain acrobat, not LCD.

Can anyone help me?

Hi dglarson,

Form Field Recognition is great but not perfect. Typically you do have to do some manual field work after it is run. There is no built-in option to change field types- you aren't missing anything.

There is an article here by Lori Kassuba at AUC with tips on how to get the best results from FFR-
Designing Forms for Auto Field Detection in Adobe Acrobat

Hope this helps,

Field types can be changed using Acrobat but… you must use Acrobat 5!

I developed a script that is meant to help with situations just like that. Have a look here:
