Creating Forms: LiveCycle Designer or Acrobat Pro

Hi, my first message - unfortunately in bad English... I'm sorry!

I have to create forms from PDFs which where exported from InDesign. Then I would like to have a automatic form field recognition which also can recognize tables. After that I would like to edit the fields in groups so that I can change text format or behavior of fields. Surely I have to add fields that where not regognized. So I would like to have style libraries in which often used form fields could be stored. After all I would like to have some "guiding lines" and grids to help me adjust the fields. Some calculating has also to be done.

At the moment I'm using CS3 Design Premium on PC which means that I began to explore LiveCycle Desiger, which looks very handy to me and I had some good start doing the things I have described above.

My question: My company like to to some good to me. Upgrade to CS5 Design Premium and a new computer - a Mac :-)

Unfortunately I have read that there is no LiveCycle Designer on Mac...

Can I do the things from above with Acrobat Pro, too? I have not found all the editing tools in Acrobat 9 Pro which I began to use in LiveCycle Designer...

What is the difference between the two programs except the possibility to create flexible forms with LiveCycle Designer?

Is LiveCycle Designer integrated in CS5 Design Premium PC?
Should I stay on PC, because there are really hundreds of forms to be redesigned be me - I'm working in government...

Thanks for your patience to read my questions!
Best whishes from Cologne, Germany and kind regards, Alfette

I use a Mac and run Windows XP in VMWare Fusion. That gives me the best of both worlds even though 99% of the time I work in the Windows environment.

It is not likely that there will ever be a Mac version of LiveCycle Designer at this point.

The only way in Acrobat to set up a library of items is to make some PDF with various field elements on it that you can copy and paste into other forms. For example I have a sheet of button with various languages translations of the button caption that I can copy and paste from. Not as robust as the libraries in LiveCycle Designer.

There are other things besides dynamic forms you can do with LiveCycle Designer that you won't be able to do with Acroforms and others that you might be able to do in Acroforms but require more work.

As far as I know LiveCycle Designer is not integrated in CS5. It only comes with the full Acrobat Professional or Professional Extended for Windows.

Personaly I like working in Acrobat and LiveCycle Designer on Window more than I do on the Mac. But that is just me so I'm not saying choose one or the other. I'm just saying what I perfer.

By the way your English is fine. A lot better than the German I learned over 30 years ago and am trying to hold on to.

Dear StevenD,
thanks a lot for yout very useful reply. I will stay on PC :-)
I had contact to Acrobat support - they said, that livecycle will still be included in CS5 for PC, as long as there is Acrobat 9 included. It ist possible to upgrade then to Livecycle ES2 for a small amount.
That is, what we will do here.
Best wishes to you, Alfette
