distributed forms won't open on macs

I created a fillable pdf from a word doc and set it up for distribution. I can send it to pc computers and the forms can be opened, filled out, and returned to me. when I send the distributed form to a mac, it cannot be opened. the fillable pdf can be opened and filled out, but not saved or emailed, only printed. I have downloaded the most recent version of acrobat reader on the mac so it's not being opened with viewer.
has anyone had this problem and has a fix for me? thanks
