Field names disappear from Fields nav panel, but fields still there

I've never seen this before, and I've searched the forums for an explanation and couldn't find anything similar.

I have an Acrobat form on which I built a layer of fields: text, number, calculation, radio button, and submit buttons. It was working great, and the Field nav panel listed all field names.

I pasted an image onto the form page, decided I didn't like it, then deleted the image.

Here's the strange part: All the fields I created are still on the page; however, they all have the same field name and generic text field type...including the radio buttons and the submit buttons. The Fields nav panel doesn't list anything: it's totally blank.

Other than recreating all the fields (it's only one page, so I'm out only about an hour's work), what else could I try? Have I inadvertently turned something on (or off)? I certainly don't want to be in this boat again if I can help it!

That is strange, and sounds like buggy behavior. What version of Acrobat are you using?

Thanks for the reply, George. I'm using Acrobat Professional 8.1.3. Luckily rebuilding the form didn't take very long. I usually write my JavaScripts in UltraEdit, so all I had to do was paste them in. However, had this been a big form on a tight deadline...? When I get some time, I'll try to recreate the problem.

Another member had a similar problem in another post. It turned out that the PDF was corrupt so they had to rebuild the form as well. You can use the Preflight tools in Acrobat (sp. the PDF Syntax) to see if there is anything wrong with the PDF to be sure.

A corrupt PDF could certainly cause this kind of behavior. I haven't been able to replicate the problem with this file, and I didn't lose much time rebuilding it. Thanks for your help!
