Filling out Forms?

Hello,

I am looking for some information on how someone would fill out an interactive form.
I have created for my department an interactive marketing request form in Acrobat Designer.
Followed all the steps and sent out the template for all my team to use.
Now, only people with Acrobat Pro can fill out the forms... the rest cannot fill them out and save.
Even if they did not want to save it - they are sending me back the form via email and I cannot access it at all.

Help!!

Eli

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 9.1.1, Windows

You need to "Enable Extended Reader Form Rights" for the PDF. See the FAQ's at the top of this forum.

Thank you again for all your quick response...

I do not think I am explaining myself correctly so here it goes:
I designed an interactive form which I saved as a template.
I sent this template to all my field reps.
This form is filled out by them, the form contains for example information on the ad they want to do with one of their client.
The form needs to be sent back to me so that we can process it.
NOW, theses reps are not a the office, not all of them have Acrobat 9 most have Acrobat Reader
and they want to keep track of the request they are sending me... So once they fill out the form - they were hoping to save it on their computer... So far I have not been able to do that

hope this explanation helps a little more

1. Save your form as a ".PDF" (static PDF or dynamic PDF) form from LiveCycle Designer.
2. Open the saved PDF form in Acrobat.
3. On Acrobat's menu bar select the "Advanced" option.
4. Select the "Enable Usage Rights in Acrobat Reader..."
5. Follow the prompts.
6. Do save from Acrobat or Acrobat Professional or you will remove the "Extended Usage Rights".
7. Email the PDF to the clients.

The above has a limit of 500 copies being distributed for any given Enabled PDF form. Above that 500 form limit one would need to purhcase LiveCycle Designer Enterprise Server.

Reader can only read PDF files and not LiveCycle Designer XML or TDS files.

You might need to know exactly which version of Reader each of your clients is using and then make the PDF compatible to the lowest version, but not less than version 7 for dynamic forms. You may need to have some of your clients update to a newer version. The oldest possible version of Reader that can process a LiveCycle Designer static form is Version 5.01 but for dynamic forms it will be version 7.

The LiveCycle Designer XML and TDS files are unique to LiveCycle Designer, just as certain image files are unique to very specific imaging programs, and the distribution needs to done using a very standard type of file. In this case, it has a type of a PDF file.

The word "Template" is not very precise because there are too many programs that use templates that does not refer to a blank form.

Hi George,

I am wondering how the 500 copies will be accounted? Do you mean I can use the functionality (Enable Usage Rights in Acrobat Reader) 500 times?

Appreciate your explanation.

No the ELU limits the distributoin of an enabled form to 500. It appears to be on the honor system.

I see. Thank you for the info. There is a need for me to utilize the ELU and 500 is a lot for now.

You're always been a good resource for me. More power to you!

Did there used to be problems with this in older versions of Acrobat Pro? I remember on a project years ago that not all acrobat readers were able to save/submit the document.

In my case, yes. I created the form in Acrobat Pro 7.0. Our users open the form in Adobe Reader and complete the form. Originally, they just print, sign and submit the hard copy but lately there is a need to email the filled-form to their supervisors for review, which will mean allowing the supervisors to do corrections and comments. This is where the problem occurs. The form could not save the data filled-in by the users in Reader. Acrobat Pro can save the data but it will be ridiculous to provide all users with Acrobat Pro or have the supervisors re-type the entries. So, as the experts of this forum have advised, 8.0 has the ELU that will resolve the problem (with limitation). I actually opened my form in 8.0 and enabled the reader-right. It worked.

It should be an option under the menu bar's "Forms" option for:

Acrobat 8 Professional
Acrobat 9 Standard
Acorbat 9 Professional

You can verify your version under the "Help => About Adobe ...". You should see your full product name and detailed version major number and minor number in the popup window.

Yes, this feature in a non-server product was not available until version 8 Professional or 3d and was allowed in version 9 Standard. Any desk top Acrobat version prior to version 8 can not do this.
