Help menus

I have dropdown lists containing alpha-numeric choices corresponding to elements such as 01 = car, 02 = truck, etc.

I created some kind of help menus which represent these meanings. They show onFocus() and hide onBlur() from each according dropdown list. They are simple readonly text fields.

They work just the way they should for the user. But as they editor of the form, THEY ARE IN MY WAY!!!!, lol. Even though they are set as invisible, they still show in editor mode and they are on top of most of the fields so it takes hours to get across them to perform changes to fields underneat.

I'm starting to think there must be a better way to give help menus to the users.

There are many possible ways of presenting help menus. You can use alerts, text fields, pop up menus, dialogs, etc. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages.
If you use form fields and they are in your way you can cut them to an empty page at the end of the file and when you're done paste them back into place.
