I have a contract PDF where I want to be able to allow the user to enter the buyer name and that name is then propogated to all other places inteh document where the buyer name is required. I'm sure that's simple, but I just got Acrobat 8 installed on my PC today and I'm trying to figure it out. I appreciate any assistance. Thanks!

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 8.1.2, Windows

Hi LP22,

All fields in the PDF with the same name ( case sensitive) will automatically get filled in when one of those fields is filled, so just give them the same name and you're set.

Hope this helps,

That was wild. I was in the middle of sending you an email when I get your reply. I saw you gave the same advice to another person. I did try that and I think I'm doing soemthing wrong. I imported a Word doc. I added a text field and called it "name". I was then able to insert that field on page 2. When I went to enter the name. It didn't populate the second page. Can you tell what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks for your help!

Hi LP22,

Are you creating the form in Acrobat or LiveCycle Designer? This is the Forms:Acrobat thread so I assumed you are creating an AcroForm in Acrobat. There is a different forum called Forms:LiveCycle for questions on LiveCycle forms. It's confusing I know, but Acrobat and LiveCycle are two completely separate programs in one box and have different methods for doing the same things.

Hope this helps,

Dimitri

I am in LifeCycle Designer. I thought I was posting to several threads cause I wasn't sure where to post. I'm new to this as well. Your'e lucky day! A newbie to everything. No I haven't been living under a rock ;)

Anyway, I'm happy to use whatever will do the job. I am literally just feeling my way through this today and have no idea which would be better. I did watch a video of Thomp's on Forms for Acrobat 8 which helped.

This is for our legal team and they are very wary about the file being secure. We'd like to show them they can trust some entry fields to make the process more efficient. Today a lot of the same information is being HAND entered on dozens of printed out docs. I think tihs could help if I could figure out how to do it! :)

Thanks for your input and patience.

Hi LP22,

In that case in LiveCycle Designer you can set the global binding on one of the fields with the same name, then all of those with that name will be filled when just one is filled.

Here's hoping for a successful effort in reducing the paperload- a worthy effort!

Since you are new to PDF forms I suggest you purchase a copy of Ted Padova and Angie Akomoto's book the "PDF Forms Bible." It is the best resource available for this and covers both AcroForms and LiveCycle Designer forms. You can get it from Amazon and there is a great discount offered here at AUC for members- check in your account area for the code.

Hope this helps,

Thanks Dimitri! I tested Acrodocs and it works. I'll take your advice about the book. Thanks so much for your help.
