Make Form Field Uneditable

I have searched this website for about an hour now and have not found what I'm looking for.

I created a form in Designer 8.0 and saved the resulting form in Acrobat 6 static (but have tried multiple options for saving). I need to be able to open to:

1. Open the pdf
2. Make changes to the form fields
3. Lock or flatten the form fields (or somehow make them uneditable without requiring a password)
4. Email the pdf to client-list
5. Clients can open the pdf using whatever version of pdf software they have but they cannot edit the fields

Background: my husband is a mortgage broker, so I want him to be able to open the pdf, insert current mortgage rates, lock the fields, and send to clients. Clients have various versions of Acrobat so we need to save it for the most ancient version possible, if possible.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

If you are dealing with clients using Acrobat/Reader versions less than 6 you might want to completly avoid the use LiveCycle Desinger due to all the incompatabilites with Acrobat, especially the loss "Reduce File Size" and "PDF Optimizer" for LIveCycle Desinger Froms.

You can always print the completed form to the Acorbe PDF printer and set the compatibility level to verson 4. You should also consider setting the secruity to prevent changes to the PDF and apply the password as any Standard version of Acrobat can use the "Text Touchup" tool to modify the contents of a PDF.
