PDF or XML in Form Recognition

I'm using the trial version of Acrobat 8.0 pro. I love the form field recognition feature in 8.0. My question is when you use form field recognition is the file created a pdf file or XML?

Acrobat Pro 8, Windows

It is an AcroForm-based PDF. However, you can easily convert that to an XFA-based form using the included LiveCycle Designer.
