Please excuse me for I am new here.
What I have done is created a calendar in excel and saved it as a .pdf
I'm using Acrobat 7 professional to add text boxes. when I save it and open it in Acrobat reader it will let me fill out the calendar and print it but it will not let me save the info that is typed in.

I have seen other forms made with Acrobat 7 that can be filled out in the reader and saved.

Could someone shed some light on this for me.

Thank you
Elmo.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 7.0.9, Windows

Hi Elmo,

The ability to apply Reader save rights to a PDF was added in Acrobat 8- for Professional version only, and in Acrobat version 9 it is possible for both Professional and Standard. If you have used a PDF that can be saved in Reader that was created in Acrobat version 7 then it was one in which the Rights were applied with the Reader Extension Server- a separate product sold by Adobe for adding special rights to a PDF for use in Reader. For example, the IRS has fillable/savable forms but they used the server product to apply those rights.

For you to add these Rights in Acrobat alone you will need at least Acrobat 8 Pro ( or Acrobat 9 Standard or Pro).

Hope this helps,

Dimitri

Hi handicapvehiclespecialists,

Do you have Acrobat 8 Professional or Standard?
Are you trying to fill and save the form in Acrobat Standard, Professional, or the free Adobe Reader?

The ability to add Rights to a PDF so that people using the free Adobe Reader can Save the form requires Acrobat 8 Pro, Standard won't work. In Acrobat 9 Adobe added this capability to both Standard and Professional.

If you have Acrobat 8 Professional open the PDF form, go to Advanced-> Enable Usage Rights in Adobe Reader, follow the prompts then Save the form. It should now be equipped to be saved by Adobe Reader users.Hope this helps,

Hello, Dimiti! I am having a problem with the Extended User's Rights function that I hope you can help me with. I have Adobe Acrobat Pro 9, and I created a form using the Enable Usage Rights in Reader. But for some users, after they fill in the form, save it, and send it to someone else the text in the form can no longer be accessed - the scroll bars in individual fields do not work, and the entered text can not be copied.

The Help menu says that once it is saved the Enabled Usage Rights are removed, but for some users with Reader they have been able to open the PDF edited by someone else and access the text.

Is there a sequence that can be followed whereby the Enable Usage Rights remains in affect? The intent is to have someone open the form, save it to their desktop, fill it out, save it again, and then e-mail to a different person in the company. The second person may also have Reader only, but we need for them to be able to access the entered text on the form.

As I said, for some people it seems to work, but for others the form turns "static" when they send it, and no one else can access their entered text.

HELP!

Hi Dale,

A couple questions for you-

1. Where in the Help file does it say an Enabled form once saved removes the Reader save rights? This goes against the whole idea of having save rights for Reader. One big reason people wanted this feature was so Reader users open a long complex form, fill in some information, save it and come back later to finish filling it out (multiple sessions).

2. You don't say what version of Reader the end users with the problem have. Does everyone have at least Reader 7?

3. What is on your form? Is it simple text fields? If you are doing certain actions like inserting or extracting pages, performing certain JavaScript actions (such as changing the properties of a field border or fill color) then the Rights are disabled on a Save.

Hope this helps,

Dimitri

Thank you for your response, Dimitri! I'll try & answer your questions:1. Of course, I was unable to find the web sites where I saw the comments about enabling usage rights for Reader. I did find one comment that might explain my problems: "Save A Copy specifically REMOVES usage rights (and I'm pretty sure it has a warning telling you so, or did the first time). It is in fact the only tool for removing usage rights in Acrobat." I think what I saw was written in a way that it didn't refer to an actual menu selection of "Save a Copy", but was instead written as "if you save a copy...".

2. I have instructed the users of this form that they must have Reader version 8.0 or higher. But I suspect that several people have attempted to use this form with Reader version 7.0 or lower.

3. This form is a very simple form. All text, no calculations or fancy formulas. I wouldn't know a Java Script if it bit me in the....well, I wouldn't recognize one.

So I am left wondering if the few times it has not worked so far is due to someone using version 7 Reader or earlier, or maybe they used "Save a Copy" instead of "Save As" and renaming the file.

It's very heartening to hear you say that yes, they should be able to distribute the form with the fields active and editable. I hope I can resolve this issue and put the form into general use, although the End Users License Agreement statements about limiting use of the form to 500 users/uses may cause me problems down the road.
